Sault Ste Marie is a small city in Ontario, between Lake Huron and Lake Superior. It is on the border with Michigan, and the American city on the other side of St Mary’s River is also called Sault Ste Marie.
Whitefish Island is on the Canadian side of St Mary’s River. It is both a National Historic Site and an Indian reserve(appropriately called the Whitefish Island Indian Reserve). Archaeological sites date to over 2000 years ago, and it was on a major trading route. Nowadays, the island contains many walking trails, and is a great place to view birds and wildlife.
